Sciatica

What is it?

The sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the body and begins from nerve roots in the lumbar spinal cord in the low back and extends through the buttock area to send nerve endings down the lower limb. When it becomes irritated it creates pain and discomfort.

Why do I have it?

A herniated disk can put pressure on the sciatic nerve. Other causes of sciatica include: Lumbar spinal stenosis – narrowing of the spinal cord in the lower back and osteoarthritis.

When does it hurt?

For many of you the pain or presence of sciatica is always there. It is the flare ups that cause more disability. Poor posture while sleeping and sitting. Doing too much of anything i.e.) exercising the wrong way, cutting the grass, walking etc.

The Bracing Experts Advice:

Three words: Posture. Posture. Posture. Knowing what is causing the sciatica pain and where i.e. herniated disc; stenosis is really important. This can help us fit you with a brace that will best align your spine in order to take as much pressure off the sciatica nerve.
